A few alternate names for the Black-tailed Lavender Waxbill include Black-tailed Grey Waxbill, and also Grey Waxbill. These small birds are Grey with a red rump and black line through the eye, along with red upper-tail coverts. They are similar to the Cindarella Waxbill, but in comparison they have a darker shade of grey with a longer tail and no lower red flanks. They are usually found south of the equator.
