Scientific Name: (Coryphospingus cucullatus )

The Red-Crested Finch, or better known as the Red-Pileated Finch, are part of the tanagers.  These are birds that come from South America and were originally from the family called Emberizidae.  Other birds that were in this family were sparrows and buntings.

These birds have black stripes along their sides.  They also have a bushy, scarlet crest along the top of their heads.  The wings and tail of this bird is brown, with the rear area being red.  It is white around the eye area.

The habitat of these birds includes the South American countires of Brazil, Bolivia, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Ecuador, Uruguay, French Guinea, Paraguay, and Argentina, just to name a few.  They have also been introduced to a few other areas.


Diet:

Mainly frugivorous feasting on fruit but will add insects and other invertebrates to their diet.
