D’Arnaud’s Barbet (Latin name Trachyphonus Darnaudil) is a barbet from Africa. Along with toucans, barbets are a type of near passerine birds that can be found all around the world in tropical locations. Barbets derive their name from the bristles that form a fringe along their heavy bills.

The barbets grow to be about 8 inches high and live just as well in the trees as on the ground. They build a nest on the ground that has a tunnel about 2 – 3 feet in length that leads to the nesting chamber. When courting, males and females perform a visually arresting, toy like dance filled with bobs, weaves, twitches and songs.
